A historic house

The UNESCO Tvrdalj Castle is a heritage building in Stari Grad. Revelin is your chance to stay in this iconic location, created by the nobleman Petar Hektorović, an important Croatian poet and philosopher. Writing in the Croatian language, he described the islanders, the island and his home, the Tvrdalj Castle. His works have captured the national imagination.

Inspired Homeworking

Revelin is one of Europe’s oldest places of hospitality. Petar Hektorović created the UNESCO Tvrdalj Castle in 1520, adding Revelin in 1553 as 'Ospitali' to shelter travellers. He designed the garden as a ‘shrine of the muses’ to inspire poetry and contemplation. It is one of the earliest ornamental gardens in Europe and the inspiration for Revelin’s study space.

Curated Design

The Tvrdalj Castle garden, with its romantic fishpond inspired Revelin’s calm spirit and curated spaces. Revelin is rooted in its historical origins, striking a balance between easy living and luxury, with natural textures and materials to reconnect with the timeless appeal of the Mediterranean region. Due to its traditional construction, the ground floor is naturally cooler in summer.

The Celebrated Island

Experience the charm of tradition in a lively 2400 year-old UNESCO town. Revelin is just off the busy seafront, the Mediterranean world is on your doorstep, traffic free. Stari Grad is a cultural, still-without-the-crowds summer destination for Croatians as well as overseas visitors.

For its sunshine, its exquisite bays tucked next to ancient landscapes of olives, vines and lavender, and its way of life, Hvar is the most celebrated island in Croatia and one of the best islands in Europe (2023, Conde Nast). It is a privilege to be part of Stari Grad 'the Old City', Hvar’s original settlement from 384 BCE with its UNESCO World Heritage hidden Ancient Greek city of Pharos, Roman layers and Tvrdalj Castle. The fascinating life of the island is appreciated in respect of a certain art of living. Loving nature, respecting it, taking an interest in the locality, with its 2400-year-old traditions, taking the time to discover the UNESCO Stari Grad Plain and its produce.
